January 2008

Greetings!

We welcome 2008 in and take a look back at 2007 for the Winfield Historical Society & Museum. We're grateful for your interest and support of our museum and programs. The year started with a new board member, Pat Fricke, and she was a great help, especially during Crooked Creek Days and getting our 10th Anniversary float made. The cake turned out good enough to eat! In 2008 we welcome Terry Phelps to our board and look forward to his contributions.

Thanks to Bill and Carol Klopfenteins' efforts, our program on Bill Bryson was a huge success with over 60 people attending. Chris Chrisinger, our Program Chairman, put together another successful railroad program. Always well attended and very interesting. This year's railroad program will be on Monday, February 18th at the school, watch The Winfield Beacon for details. Another outstanding program we sponsored in 2007 was "The Last Days of WWII - The Story of Two Airmen." We thank all who contributed to that interesting and informative program about Keith Haight and Allen Goff.

We honored one of our own on Crooked Creek Days. We were proud to have Bill and Mary Wintermeyer as ambassadors. Valuable contributors to our community.

This year we sold many prints of the C. B. & Q. Depot, a great fund raiser and our many thanks to artist Bob Eckel and Patty Butler for getting that started. We still have prints available for $30.00, please contact the museum if you're interested in one.

We received grant money to renovate our storage area which is in bad need. So 2008 will see improvements in that department. This means we'll have more room to take in items of local interest, which is our way of asking for your help. We always love old pictures, advertising items, and local antiques, so we can continue to learn about our community.

Please keep our museum in mind when estate planning. We stay active solely through memorials, donations, and membership. Keep in touch through our web-site, www.winfieldhistoricalsociety.com and our thanks to Judith Robinette for the great work keeping this up and running.

Visit us on Mondays 10 to 12 a.m. at the museum. Please let any board member know of any ideas or items that will help us out. We're here to serve our community. We look forward to your support, THANK YOU!
